Ahead of his September 26 commitment announcement, the Miami basketball program is in the top five for 2025 top prospect, center Jaden Toombs. Alabama, SMU, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt are the other four schools in the top five for Toombs.
Per his On3 recruiting page, Toombs has taken official visits to Alabama, Miami and Texas Tech with Vanderbilt and SMU scheduled for the next two weekends. The On3 industry rankings have Toombs are the 41st best prospect, fourth center and fourth player in Texas in the 2025 class.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects SMU as the favorite with a 29.1 percent chance for a Toombs commitment, Texas Tech second at 25.5, followed by Alabama at 16.5 percent, and Miami and Vanderbilt at 13.8 percent. In recruiting its often said to follow the visits. SMU and Texas Tech will be the only programs to host Toombs twice.
Toombs has averaged 12.8 points per game, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.1 blocks in two seasons at Dynamic Prep in Dallas. A commitment from the 6'9, 215 Toombs would be significant for Jim Larranaga and the Miami basketball program. Shooting guard Matthew Able is the only 2025 Miami commit.
Projected Miami starting center Lynn Kidd and his expected backup Kiree Huie have one season of eligibility remaining after transferring from Virginia Tech and Idaho State. Toombs potentially has a path to compete for playing time immediately as a true freshman for Jim Larranaga in the 2025-26 season.
Miami also loses projected starting power forward Brandon Johnson from the 2024-25 roster after he transferred from East Carolina. Expect Miami to be active in the transfer portal for a big man again in 2025. Miami is also expected to be among the finalists for five-star center 2025 Cameron Boozer and his twin, point guard Cayden.
