Miami kicker Andres Borregales named ESPN's 2024 preseason All-America team
Miami kicker Andres Borregales was named to "ESPN's 2024 college football preseason All-America team" on Wednesday. Borreagales was second-team behind Alabama kicker Graham Nicholson. Borreagales previously was named first-team preseason All-ACC and to the Lou Groza Award Watch list.
In 2023, Borregales made 22 of his 26 field goal attempts and 44 out of 45 field goal attempts for 110 points. Borregales made all five of his FG attempts inside of 30 yards in 2023, was 9-10 from 30-39 yards, 4-5 from 40-49 yards and 4-6 from 50 plus. Borregales averaged 63.01 yards per kickoff.
Nicholson scored 113 points in 2023. Playing for Miami (Ohio) in 2023, Nicholson made 26 out of 27 field goal attempts. That included 1-1 from zero to 19 yards, 6-6 from 20-29 yards, 9-9 from 30-39 yards, 9-10 from 40-49 yards and 1-1 from 50 plus. Nicholson made a 48-yard field goal in his only attempt versus Miami in 38-3 2023 loss.
Borreagales was named First Team All-ACC in 2023 and a Groza Award Semifinalist. Entering the 2024 season, Borregales is 21 field goals behind Michael Badgley for the Miami career record. Borregales needs 114 points to tie Badgley for the career record. Borregales should come close to those records in 2024.
Borregales is attempting to become the second member of his family to earn All-American. Jose Borregales was a unanimous first-team All-American in 2020. Jose made all 37 of his extra points and 20 of 22 field goal attempts in 2020. Jose was 5-5 from 20-29 yards, 6-6 from 30-39, 7-9 from 40-49 and 2-2 from 50 plus.
Miami is expected to have a more explosive offense in 2024. That would increase the opportunities for Borregales. Borregales should conclude his career as the best kicker in Miami history. When the game is on the line, Miami knows they have one of the best kickers in college football.
