Miami LB commit Elijah Melendez not so subtle tweet his recruitment is over
In a somewhat playful X post, four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez used a GIF of Vince Carter with the caption it's over. The GIF was a not-so-thinly veiled reference to Melendez's recruitment. Melendez took the final of his four official visits in the last month with the Miami football program this past weekend.
Auburn, Mississippi and Oklahoma hosted Melendez the three previous weekends. Oklahoma had reportedly made the biggest impression on Melendez other than Miami before Sunday. Melendez told Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U he is locked in with Miami after his official visit this weekend.
Melendez is the 135th prospect, 16th LB and 20th player in Florida out of Kissimmee Osceola in the 2025 247Sports Composite rankings. In the 2025 Miami class, Melendez ranks fourth overall and second among defensive commits. Safety Amari Wallace and cornerback Timothy Merritt are the only other 2025 Miami defensive commits.
Melendez who committed to Miami in December was the second pledge in the 2025 Hurricanes' class and first on defense. Miami LBs coach and newly appointed defensive coordinator Derek Nicholson led the recruitment of Melendez.

The Miami staff clearly closed the deal with Melendez's recruitment this weekend. Rivals National Recruiting Director Adam Gorney reported earlier this week that all four programs that hosted or were hosting (Miami this weekend) were even. Melendez reasserted his commitment to Miami following his official visit.
The official visit to Miami was the sixth overall to the Hurricanes by Melendez. Auburn, Florida and Penn State were the next highest, with three each. Michigan and Mississippi were the only other programs where Melendez took multiple unofficial visits, with two each.

Following Wallace's commitment on Thursday, Miami rose to the 32nd-ranked 2025 class. Miami had been ranked in the 40s in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Four-star cornerback Chris Ewald is projected to commit to Miami on Thursday. Miami should continue to rise in the 2025 rankings over the next few weeks.
