Miami moves up in week five rankings in both polls

Miami moved up in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today week five coaches polls released on Sunday.

Miami moved up one spot to seventh in the Associated Press Top 25 and two places to ninth in the USA Today week five polls released on Sunday. Miami passed Missouri in both polls and Utah in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Seventh is the highest ranking for Miami in the AP Top 25 since October 4, 2020.

Miami received 1,139 points in the AP Top 25, solidly securing the seventh ranking nationally. Mississippi is sixth in the AP Top 25 with 1,269 points and Oregon is eighth with 1,073 points. Miami has 912 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Eighth through 11th is tight in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Penn State is eighth in the USA Today Coaches Poll with 967 points, followed by Miami, Utah which is ranked 10th with 904 points and Missouri which fell three spots to 11th with 887 points. The fall from Missouri to 12th-ranked Michigan is over 100 points. Miami is the highest ranked team outside of the Big 10 or SEC.

Five of the top six teams in both polls are from the SEC. Texas is first in the AP Top 25 and Georgia tops the USA Today Coaches polls. The teams are each second in the other poll. Ohio State, Alabama Mississippi round out the top six. Tennessee is fifth in the Coaches AP Top 25 and sixth in the Coaches poll. Mississippi is flipped.

Miami is one of three ACC teams in the week five polls. Louisville is 15th and Clemson 17th in the AP Top 25. Clemson is 15th and Louisville 17th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Boston College and Pittsburgh received votes in the AP Top 25. Duke joined BC and Pittsburgh receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Duke and Louisville are the only teams remaining on the 2024 Miami schedule that are currently ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25. Miami will host Virginia Tech on Friday. Virginia Tech has started the 2024 season 2-2 after receiving votes in both preseason Top 25s.
