Miami is proving on the field that it belongs among the best teams nationally and not just as one that potentially qualifies for the College Football Playoff as the projected ACC Champion. The Hurricanes are the eighth-ranked nationally in the ESPN Football Power Index and the TeamRankings predictive metrics.

Miami is fifth nationally averaging 53.0 points per game and 13th allowing 8.7. Through three weeks of the 2024 season, Miami has been one of the most dominant teams. There was little movement in the top 10 of the week four national polls without any upsets or significant matchups.

Miami is eighth in the Associated Press Top 25 and 11th in the Week Four USA Today Coaches Poll. The top 12 stayed the same in both week four polls. Louisville, who fell from 11th to 13th, was the only team to drop out of the top 12 in the FPI. The CFP projections are nearly the same as last week in the FPI.

Texas' 56-7 win over Texas-San Antonio and Georgia escaping Kentucky with a 13-12 victory elevated the Longhorns to first in the AP Top 25. Georgia remains first in the coaches poll. Texas is first in the FPI and Alabama tops the week four TeamRankings metrics. Georgia is fifth in the FPI and fourth in the TeamRankings metrics.

Kansas State makes its 2024 maiden appearance in the 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction. Kansas State was impressive in their 31-7 win over Arizona on Friday night. The win by Kansas State pushes them ahead of Utah. The Big XII should be competitive to earn the CFP spot this season.

UNLV makes its first appearance this season. The Rebels have wins over Houston and Kansas of the Big XII. Those wins should hold up all season if the Rebels keep winning. It is unlikely another Group of Five team will have two wins over Power Conference opponents.

The other 10 spots in the CFP predictions remain the same. There are several games this week that could impact the CFP projections. USC is at number 18 Michigan. Number 12 Utah (in the AP Top 25) is at 14th ranked Oklahoma State and sixth ranked Tennessee is at number 15 Oklahoma.

Kansas State is at BYU. That's a tough game for the Wildcats. Depending on the outcome of Utah at Oklahoma State, one of those teams could pass Kansas State as the current projected team from the Big XII in the CFP. A Tennessee loss would likely move Miami up in the rankings.

Miami at South Florida could be a challenging game for the Hurricanes. Mario Cristobal told the Joe Rose Morning Show on WQAM that South Florida is the best team Miami has played so far this season. As the Big 10 and SEC teams beat each other, Miami should continue to ascend higher in the national polls.
