Miami rises in both week seven polls and remains the same in ESPN FPI

Miami rose in the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches poll following their epic comeback win over California on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Miami benefited from upset losses by previously ranked number one/two Alabama and fourth-ranked Tennessee and moved up from eighth to sixth in the Associated Press Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll Coaches Polls on Sunday. Miami achieved its highest ranking since they were second in the 2017 week 13 poll.

Miami received 1,187 points in the AP Top 25 to edge just ahead of Alabama. The Crimson Tide dropped from first to seventh in the AP Top 25 with 1,182 points. Georgia is one spot ahead of Miami with 1,299 points in the AP Top 25. Miami began the season 19th in the AP Top 25.

Miami received 1,085 points in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Penn State is one spot ahead of Miami with 1,163 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Alabama is also seventh in the USA Today Coaches Poll with 1,035 points. Miami was also 19th in the Preseason AFCA Coaches Poll.

Clemson, Pittsburgh and SMU are the other ranked ACC teams. Clemson is 10th in the AP Top 25 and 11th in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Pittsburgh is 22nd in the AP Top 25 and 24th in the AFCA Coaches Poll. SMU is 25th in both polls. Miami does not play Clemson, Pittsburgh or SMU in 2024.

Miami remained 10th in the ESPN Football Power Index. Clemson is one spot behind Miami in 11th. Louisville who is 16th and SMU at 18 are the only other ACC teams ranked in the FPI Top 25. Miami plays at Louisville on October 19 following a bye next week. Louisville fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC with a loss to SMU on Saturday.

Miami does not have a ranked team remaining on their schedule after Louisville fell out of the AP Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Polls following the 34-27 loss to SMU on Saturday. Louisville is at Virginia before they host Miami. That game is a must-win for Louisville to stay in the ACC race.
