National CFB writer projects Miami football over their win total
The Miami football program enters the 2024 season with high expectations after a productive offseason. A top-10 transfer class led by the addition of quarterback Cam Ward and running back Damien Martinez is expected to elevate the talent on Miami in 2024.
Brad Crawford of 247Sports predicts that "Miami hits the over on its win total" in his article posted on Saturday, "50 thoughts on college football's 2024 season: Predictions, analysis, more." Miami has received a lot of coverage during the 2024 offseason by signing top 10 2024 recruiting and transfer classes.
The additions of Ward, Martinez, wide receiver Sam Brown and center Zach Carpenter should significantly help Miami offensively. Ward, Martinez, Brown, Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George make Miami one of the few teams nationally with a returning 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 800-yard receivers.
Miami also returns three starting offensive linemen to play with Carpenter. On defense Miami has an exceptional group of edge rushers. Rueben Bain should continue to develop after being named the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Elijah Alston, Bain, Tyler Baron and Akheem Mesidor provide Miami a deep group of edge rushers.
"45. Miami hits the over on its win total
- Brad Crawford
It's the most talented group Mario Cristobal's had during his tenure and the schedule sets up for success if Miami gets through the first month of the season unscathed. A 10-2 finish would be a major step in a positive direction."
The favorable schedule Crawford alludes to is at Florida, versus Ball State and Florida A&M, at South Florida and versus Virginia Tech. Miami will be favored in all of those games except at Florida. Miami plays at California, followed by a bye week. Games at Louisville and versus Florida State could determine if Miami is a contender in the ACC.
Miami will be favored in its last four games versus Duke, at Georgia Tech, versus Wake Forest and at Syracuse. If Miami can at least split the games versus Florida State and at Louisville, they will be in a position to earn a berth in the ACC Championship game. That would put Miami near 10 wins, depending on the outcome at Florida.
