Beyond Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, the Miami football program is thin on experience and proven production at wide receiver entering the 2024 season. Chris Hummer of 247Sports mentioned Miami in his article "Transfer portal needs: 10 college football teams with big holes entering spring transfer window."

Miami needs an experienced outside WR with size. Isaiah Horton will enter the spring as the third first-team WR. Horton had 13 receptions for 168 and one touchdown as the fourth WR in the 2023 Miami rotation. Miami returns most of the WRs from the 2023 roster but does not have a lot of experience.

Horton is the only WR on the current Miami roster over 6'2, at 6'4. Miami was slow in the transfer portal. Part of that was quarterback Cam Ward taking his time making a decision. Ward waiting until mid-January impacted other positions. Miami will have the April 16 through 30 transfer portal window to evaluate a WR.

Sophomores Ray Ray Joseph and Robby Washington who are the other returning WRs on the Miami roster combined for eight receptions for 63 yards in 2023. Miami signed an excellent group of WRs in the 2024 class. It's difficult to rely on freshmen to make an impact. Adding a transfer WR should help with depth, experience and production.

"MIAMI HURRICANES – WIDE RECEIVER
The Hurricanes got their top target at quarterback (Ward). But given how long it took them to bring Ward into the boat, it did impact their ability to land a high-level wide receiver target.

Miami already has a pair of star-level receivers in Xavier Restrepo (85 catches, 1,092 yards) and Jacolby George (57 catches, 864 yards) but would still like (to) find another impact outside receiver to replace the departing Colbie Young, who transferred to Georgia.

You saw the Hurricanes try to make a late push for (Liberty WR C.J.) Daniels (who transferred to LSU) after Ward signed. Expect them to be aggressive trying to find an impact outside receiver when the spring window opens."

Other WRs in the early transfer portal window with ties to Miami. Former Alabama WR Ja'Cory Brooks, who at one time prepped at Booker. T. Washington transferred to Louisville. The top WRs who entered the transfer portal have already found their new programs. Miami will have to wait until spring.

Miami needs another WR to take the pressure off of George and Restrepo. Horton is capable, but Miami is extremely inexperienced beyond that. Keep an eye on the programs who made head coaching changes during the offseason. Those programs should have more attrition after spring practice concludes.
