Miami basketball forward Norchad Omier officially entered the NBA Draft on Tuesday, hired an agent and will not likely return to the Hurricanes per Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald. Omier posted his decision to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft on Instagram.

Omier averaged 14.8 points per game, 10.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks, shot 56.2 percent from the floor, made 34.5 of his three-point attempts and 74.3 percent of his free throws in two seasons with Miami. Omier improved the frequency of his three-point attempts and his percentage beyond the arc in 2023-24.

At a reported 6'5.5, Omier had to improve his outside shooting to improve as an NBA prospect. Omier returned to Miami for the 2023-24 season after initially declaring for the NBA Draft. Omier was the first Nicaraguan player in Division I basketball and hopes to duplicate that feat as the first NBA player from his country.

The next step for Omier will likely be to attempt to earn an invite to the NBA Combine in Chicago. Omier participated in the G League Elite Camp in 2023. Omier has the size of a guard or small forward with the game of a post-up player. Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors most recently succeeded as an NBA undersized post player.

Omier is the second Miami player to declare for the NBA Draft. Freshman guard Kyshawn George is projected as a consensus first-round pick. The Miami coaching staff was prepared for Omier's departure. Center Lynn Kidd and forward Brandon Johnson have committed to Miami for the 2024-25 season as transfers.

Miami is still awaiting decisions from forward Matthew Cleveland and guard Wooga Poplar. If Cleveland returns, he can play his more natural position as a small forward. Cleveland played power forward for Miami in their four-out, one-in offensive system.

Jim Larrananga said getting bigger was a priority for next season. The additions of Kidd and Johnson have added size to the 2024–25 Miami roster. Miami is likely to pursue more transfers in 2024–25 to at least add depth. Guard Nijel Pack announced his return to the Miami basketball program for the 2024–25 season last week.
