Offensive player Miami football needs to develop at every position
The Miami football team made a significant leap offensively in 2023 in the first season under coordinator Shannon Dawson. There are players at every offensive position Miami will need to develop in 2024. If these players each continue to develop, Miami can continue to improve offensively in 2024.
Miami had a productive offseason offensively. Quarterback Cam Ward, running back Damien Martinez, wide receiver Sam Brown and center Zach Carpenter are transfers who significantly improve the 2024 Miami roster. Brown, Carpenter, Martinez and Ward are projected starters with proven college production.
The players Miami needs to continue developing on offense are a mix of players with proven production and some who need to produce at a high level more consistently. All of the players who Miami needs to continue developing in 2024 have been with the Hurricanes for at least one season.
One or two of the most important developmental players at each position will be starters, while the others will be in the rotation. The consensus analysis of the Miami roster is that it is ready to compete for a berth in the ACC Championship Game and a potential College Football Playoff invitation in 2024.
Williams showed potential in five games with two starts in 2023 as a true freshman. Williams completely 63.0 percent of his passes for 470 yards three touchdowns and one interception in 2023. With Ward getting most of the snaps in 2024, Williams could redshirt. Miami needs Williams to continue developing in 2024.
In 10 games with four starts, Fletcher ran for 514 yards with five touchdowns and had seven receptions for 62 yards. Before Martinez transferred to Miami, Fletcher was the projected starter in 2024. Miami needs Fletcher to continue developing in 2024 as the presumed second RB in the rotation.
With Colbie Young transferring to Georgia, Horton becomes the tallest WR on the Miami roster. Horton is the projected fourth WR in the Miami rotation behind Brown, Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo. Horton has excellent speed and should become a key target in the red zone with his height.
A knee injury in 2022 limited Arroyo to eight games with six receptions for 77 yards in the last two seasons. Miami needs Arroyo to be a key part of the passing game as the projected starting tight end in 2024. Arroyo is expected to be fully healthy and ready for a breakout season in 2024.
A five-star 2023 signee, Okunlola is projected to compete for a starting position on the offensive line in 2024. Okunlola will play either left guard or right tackle. If Okunlola is the starter at right tackle 2023 freshman All-American Francis Mauigoa would move inside to left guard.
With the additions Miami has made to the 2024 offense, these six players have a chance to continue developing and elevate the Hurricanes to another level this season. A lot is expected from Miami this season and the half-dozen players on this list are all projected to contribute in 2024.
