Pro Football Focus ranked Miami with the sixth-best running back room in 2024. PFF's Max Chadwick began his examination of the Miami RBs by commenting on the upgrade Miami made through the transfer portal. Miami lost Don Chaney Jr. Tre'Vonte Citizen and Henry Parrish as transfers off their 2023 roster.

Miami added Oregon State transfer RB Damien Martinez to replace Chaney Jr., Citizen and Parrish. Chadwick ranks Martinez as one of his top 10 returning RBs in 2024. Martinez is fourth among Power Five RBs with 1,304 rushing yards after contract over the last two seasons.

Martinez is second among Power Five RBs behind Quinshon Judkins of Ohio State with 68 carries for 10 or more yards in the last two seasons. In 2023, Martinez finished 14th nationally with 39 carries of 10 yards or more. Miami was 59th with 65 carries of 10 yards or more.

Fletcher played well sharing carries with Ajay Allen, Chaney Jr. and Parrish in 2023. Chadwick called Fletcher a rising star and highlighted that he finished second in the ACC in 2023 forcing missed tackles on 32 percent of his carries. Allen received a 77.1 grade from PFF in 2023.

Speedy redshirt freshman Chris Johnson and 2024 signee Jordan Lyle will compete to be the fourth RB behind Martinez, Fletcher and Allen this season. Miami also signed Chris Wheatley-Humphrey at RB in 2024. Miami has set a strong foundation for the future at RB. All of the Miami RBs have eligiblity remaining beyond 2024.
