Pro Football Focus projects 1 Miami football alum in NFL Draft 1st 3 rounds
Safety Kamren Kinchens is the only Miami football alum projected to be selected in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft by Pro Football Focus. The Arizona Cardinals are projected to select Kinchens with the 90th pick overall in the third round. Kinchens received a 67.8 grade from PFF for the 2023 season.
Pro Football Focus projected Kinchens as the safety taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. The PFF Mock Draft includes projected trades. Arizona owns the 90th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Tyler Nubin of Minnesota is the first safety projected to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers 25th overall.
No safeties are projected to be selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Javon Bullard of Georgia is projected to be the 70th overall pick for the New York Giants as the second safety taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jaden Hicks of Washington State is projected to be 74th overall for the Atlanta Falcons as the third safety.
Kinchens is the 87th-best 2024 NFL Draft prospect on the PFF Big Board. PFF named Kinchens one of three Miami players as "Top prospects who underperformed in 2023." Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and guard Javion Cohen were also named. Kinchens' numbers regressed in 2024.
"As a true freshman, Kinchens played in all 12 games, starting the final five. He then became a full-time starter in 2022 and 2023. Kinchens is a good all-around athlete who has made plays in both the run and pass games.

Most of his experience and production is from a free safety spot, including 12 interceptions. His range from a single-high role is good, but a big boon to that is his anticipation rather than rare athletic ability. In the run game, he is willing and in control, but his lower weight shows up in the form of missed tackles. He just doesn’t pack a big punch at contact.
Kinchens is a solid all-around athlete with a good eye for where quarterbacks are going with the ball. He possesses great ball skills to come down with interceptions when he anticipates throws. A little lighter in size, he is projected as a potential starter at free safety."
Kinchens had according to PFF, an "elite 90.0 PFF overall grade and a 90.7 coverage grade." An injury in September could have caused Kinchens to regress to a "67.8 PFF overall grade and 65.1 coverage grade" in 2023. Kinchens had subpar numbers at the NFL Combine before improving his 40-yard dash to a 4.56 at Miami's Pro Day on Monday.
As the PFF scouting report states Kinchens relies more on his high football IQ than his pure athleticism. Kinchens has fallen on most NFL Draft boards to the third round. Kinchens is more than the numbers he put up. Whatever NFL team drafts Williams is getting a pure football player.
