The Miami football program is the biggest challenger to Georgia for five-star defensive tackle Elijah Griffin per Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst and Canes County publisher Marcus Benjamin. Griffin completed his official visit to Miami this past weekend.

According to Benjamin, Miami is in a good position for Griffin due to the "weather, culture and the opportunity to develop under a hall-of-famer in Hurricanes defensive line coach Jason Taylor." Benjamin compared the recruitment of Griffin to 2024 Miami five-star DT signee Justin Scott.

Scott committed to Ohio State in July 2024 before flipping to Miami in November and signing with the Hurricanes during the December Early National Signing Period. Scott was part of an elite Miami 2024 DL class that included fellow five-stars, Armondo Blount and Marquise Lightfoot.

Spiegelman feels that Mario Cristobal's track record in recruiting cannot be ignored. Griffin likes what Miami is selling and Spiegelman felt that the official visit this weekend was a massive opportunity for Cristobal and Taylor to pry him away from Georgia.

Spiegelman felt with the big signees Miami has made in the past on the defensive line they cannot be ruled out. Miami does not have a commitment on the DL in the 2025 class. Linebacker Elijah Melendez and cornerback Timothy Merritt are the only defensive commits in the 2025 Miami class.

Merritt committed to Miami on Sunday following his official visit last weekend. Merritt could potentially work on Griffin depending on how much contact they had with each other during their official visit weekends. Griffin was the sole five-star prospect and one of three DL who took their Miami official visit last weekend.

Miami also hosted three-star DL Derry Norris and Walter Mathis last weekend. Four-star prospect Myron Charles is the sole DL Miami will host this weekend. Miami will host two DL and two edge rushers the weekend of June 21 as the Hurricanes seek to sign another elite DL class in 2025.
