Shannon Dawson named Top 10 coordinators facing elevated pressure in 2024
After an inconsistent season for Miami offensively, Shannon Dawson was named by Cody Nagel 247 Sports as one of "College Football's 10 Coordinators Facing Elevated Pressure in 2024" after his inaugural year with the Hurricanes.
Miami improved in nearly every category in the first season with Dawson as offensive coordinator. The Hurricanes need more consistency in 2024. With their top two running backs and receivers returning in 2024, Miami will be expected to evolve offensively in 2024.
The Hurricanes also return three starting offensive linemen. Under Dawson and OL coach Alex Mirabal, Miami finished 17th nationally, allowing 16 sacks all season in 2024. Indiana transfer Zach Carpenter was added to replace 2024 second-team All-ACC performer Matt Lee.
Miami mostly concentrated on defense in the transfer portal in 2024. The Hurricanes could add an offensive lineman or wide receiver through the transfer portal after the April 16-30 period. Miami returns seven starters on offense from the 2023 team. Nine 2024 starting positions for Miami seem secure.

Miami made one of the biggest moves of the winter portal window by landing Cameron Ward, the No. 4 quarterback in the transfer class. Expectations are high for the Hurricanes in 2024 with a lot of those hopes riding on the shoulders of Dawson and Ward. Miami is considered among the favorites to contend for an ACC title this season."
Ward is the biggest transfer addition for Miami in 2024. The projections for Miami in 2024 improved with the addition of Ward. Miami is the third favorite in the ACC behind Clemson and Florida State, with Nagel referencing the ACC favorites more generally. Miami hosts Florida State on October 26. Clemson and Miami will not play in 2024.

The addition of Ward is expected to provide Miami with more offensive versatility and is projected to cut down on interceptions. Dawson will be able to use more of his offensive playbook with Ward at QB in 2024. Ward is a mobile QB who can create positive plays when the play call breaks down.
