South Florida head coach Alex Golesh calls out Alabama and Miami football programs
When asked about games against the Alabama and Miami football teams this season, South Florida head coach Alex Golesh said "Bama and Miami got to play South Florida." South Florida will play at Alabama on September 7 and host Miami two weeks later.
South Florida finished 7-6 in 2023 by winning its final two games. That included a 45-0 win over Syracuse in the Boca Raton Bowl. Miami is one of two games against in-state teams for South Florida in 2024. South Florida plays at Florida Atlantic on November 1.
Miami has won five of its six games versus South Florida. The Bulls beat Miami 23-20 in overtime in 2010 for its only win over the Hurricanes. Miami has outscored South Florida by an average of 28.83 to 12.17 in the six games. The Hurricanes should enter the game at South Florida this season as the favorite.
Miami is 23rd in the ESPN Football Power Index and South Florida is 88th. Ball State who is 123rd is the only 2024 Miami FBS opponent ranked lower in the FPI than South Florida. Miami has the 50th toughest strength of schedule nationally in 2024 per the College Football Network and South Florida is 68th.
"Bama and Miami got to play South Florida. So I think it's absolutely imperative for us to play the best teams we possibly can. I think playing Miami at home is an absolutely huge deal for us. We did it for a long time in the Big East days and they've got to come play in Tampa."

South Florida plays at Southern Mississippi on September 14th in between their games against Alabama and Miami. The game in Hattiesburg could be a trap game for USF depending on how they play at Alabama. South Florida opens the season at home versus Bethune-Cookman on August 31.
The game between Miami and South Florida is the last non-conference game for both teams in 2024. South Florida is picked fourth in the AAC media poll behind Memphis, Tulane and Texas-San Antonio. Miami is expected to be picked third in the ACC behind Clemson and Miami when their media poll is released next week.
