Lamar Thomas played three seasons for the Canes before he was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 60th overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft.

Thomas was a two-time national champion with the Canes in 1989 and 1991 but was the receiver who Alabama's George Teague stripped in the 1993 Sugar Bowl routing of Miami.
