Three Miami football players who should be replaced on the 2024 depth chart
Williams played as well as expected for a true freshman in 2023. Cristobal elected to start Williams in the two most high-pressure games of the 2023 season. With the addition of Ward, it makes sense for Williams to redshirt in 2024. Williams completed 62.0 percent of his passes for 470 yards, three TDs and one interception in 2023.
Miami is expected to have Brown back in 2024, plus the addition of Reese Poffenbarger from FCS Albany provides Miami with an older, experienced QB to backup Ward. Miami signed Judd Anderson in the 2024 class. Expect Anderson to redshirt in 2023. What Brown decided to do could impact a Williams redshirt.
Most programs lose players after spring practice. Brown could transfer after spring practice concludes if a program is looking for a QB. Williams provides Miami with a steady QB with a higher floor but lower ceiling than many other signal callers, including Brown.
If everything does well for Ward in 2024, Brown, Poffenbarger and Williams project to compete to be his successor in 2025. Miami needs Ward to be healthy and productive in 2024. Williams received valuable experience in 2023. Miami needs Williams to have a year of development in 2024.
