South Florida

South Florida returns dynamic quarterback Byrum Brown. Brown completed 64.6 percent of his passes in 2023 for 3.292 yards, 26 TDs and 11 interceptions with 809 yards rushing and 11 TDs. Brown will be the most versatile QB Miami faces during their 2024 non-conference schedule.

Nay'quan Wright returns at RB after being the second-leading rusher for South Florida in 2023 behind Brown. Wright ran for 797 yards and eight TDs in 2023. Wright was not a threat as a receiver in 2023 with 10 receptions for 25 yards and no TDs. Miami will be challenged to stop Brown and Wright as runners.

Wide receiver Sean Atkins gives South Florida an elite trio returning on offense with Brown and Wright. Atkins had 92 receptions for 1,054 yards and 11 TDs in 2023. Atkins had six games of over 80 receiving in 2023. Expect fifth-year senior Daryl Porter Jr. to start covering Atkins.

The four Miami non-conference opponents will get them ready for ACC play with diverse styles of play. Opening with Florida puts Miami on the spot defensively. The games versus FAMU and Ball State should allow Lance Guidry more freedom to experiment with schemes and lineups before Miami finishes non-conference play at South Florida.
