Where new Miami DT commit Donta Simpson fits in 2025 class
The Miami football team flipped three-star defensive tackle Donta Simpson from Maryland on Friday. Simpson is the 766th prospect, 83rd defensive lineman and 101st player out of Chaminde-Madonna in the 2025 class. Miami has 20 players committed in the 2025 class with the addition of Simpson.
Simpson is the second defensive lineman in the 2025 Miami class joining three-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins. Simpson is the 17th-ranked commit in the 2025 Miami class and ninth-ranked defensive prospect committed to the Hurricanes. Miami has nine defensive commits in the 2025 class.
Simpson is the second Miami commit from Chaminade-Madonna with four-star cornerback Chris Ewald. Miami signed safety Zaquan Patterson and wide receiver Joshisa Trader in the 2024 class from Chaminade-Madonna. Miami has four commits overall from South Florida in the 2025 class.
Simpson has 72 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 12 sacks in the last two seasons. Miami needs to add depth at defensive tackle with newly added transfers Simeon Barrow, C.J. Clark and Marley Cook entering their final season of collegiate eligibility in 2024.
Simpson committed to Miami after receiving an offer from the university last week. Miami extended the offer to Simpson after hosting him twice in July. Simpson is the first commitment in August after receiving five in July. Simpson's commitment came a week after he attended a cookout hosted by Miami.
Simpson returned to Miami on Tuesday to watch practice. Simpson told Inside the U he had been looking at Miami his whole life. Miami DL coach Jason Taylor was able to teach Simpson during his visits to Miami last week. Simpson took official visits to Florida Atlantic, Maryland and West Virginia in June.
Miami now has the 10th-ranked class in the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami holds the top-ranked class in the ACC. The Hurricanes are trending to sign a third consecutive top-10 class. Miami signed the fourth-ranked 2024 class and seventh-ranked 2023 class.
