The top two quarterbacks on the Miami depth chart are clear, with Carson Beck as the starter and Emory Williams second team entering the 2025 season. Redshirt freshman Judd Anderson and true freshman Luke Nickel are competing to be the third-team signal caller for Miami in 2025.
Beck was the most significant 2025 transfer addition for Miami this offseason. Williams has played in seven games with two starts during two seasons with Miami. Consensus estimations are that the performance Williams had in the Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State led to Miami pursuing Beck as a transfer.
Williams completed five passes in 14 attempts for 26 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in relief of Cam Ward in the second half. Ward completed 12 passes in 19 attempts for 190 yards with three TDs and no interceptions in the first half as Miami took a 31-28 lead at halftime in a 41-38 loss.
Williams has completed 61.9 percent of his pass attempts for 657 yards, four TDs and two interceptions throughout his collegiate career. After playing in five games as a true freshman in 2023, Williams was able to take a redshirt with only two appearances in the 2024 season.
There’s all this talk about guys like Nussmeier, Arch, etc.

But man, Carson Beck is being incredibly overlooked heading into 2025.

The addition of Beck gives Miami stability at QB and significantly raises the expectations for the 2025 season. Beck was 24-3 as a starter at Georgia, which included an 8-3 record versus ranked teams. Notre Dame, Florida and SMU are preseason ranked teams on the 2025 Miami schedule.
Florida A&M was the only game Anderson appeared in during the 2024 season, and he did not receive a pass attempt. Anderson was a three-star high school prospect who received a 0.8783 grade from 247Sports in the 2024 class. Anderson likely just adds depth in 2025 and long-term.
Nickel could be the future for Miami at QB. Nickel was a four-star signee in the 2025 class who received a 0.9171 grade from 247Sports and was the 19th-ranked QB nationally. Expect Nickel to redshirt in 2025 with the potential to compete as a starter depending on if Miami pursues another transfer QB.
Quarterbacks transferring has seemingly become the norm in college football. Miami was fortunate to keep Anderson and Williams on the roster to maintain its depth entering the 2025 season. Beck and Williams provide Miami with experience in the QB room in 2025 and clarify the depth chart entering the season.
