Miami has its toughest game in the second half of the season on Saturday at Louisville. Louisville is the only team in the top 40 of the ESPN Football Power Index Miami plays in its final six regular season games. The Cardinals are 16th. Miami is the highest-ranked ACC team in the FPI at 10th.

The FPI models project Miami to finish with 11.2 wins and 1.4 losses, a 16.0 percent chance to go undefeated, 34.9 percent to win the ACC, 73.2 percent to make the College Football Playoff, 11.1 percent to make the National Championship Game and 4.4 percent to win the title.

Louisville improved to 4-2 after beating Virginia on Saturday. The Cardinals have losses to Notre Dame and SMU. Miami and Pittsburgh who are both 6-0 are the only remaining undefeated teams in the ACC. Clemson, SMU, Syracuse and Duke are the only remaining teams in the ACC with one loss at 5-1.

Miami only plays Duke and Syracuse among the above teams. The FPI ranking for Miami's remaining opponents is Louisville 16th, Florida State 67th, Duke 63rd, Georgia Tech 43rd, Wake Forest 94th and Syracuse 62nd. Wake Forest has the lowest FPI ranking among ACC teams.

After playing four non-conference games in the first half of the regular season, Miami has a more difficult schedule over their final six games. Florida is 27th in the FPI, South Florida 96th and Ball State 131st among Miami's non-conference opponents. As an FCS program, Florida A&M does not get ranked.

Miami has the 12th ranked strength of schedule and 11th remaining strength of schedule in the ACC. After Louisville on Saturday Miami will be a heavy favorite in their next four games. Depending on how the remainder of the season plays out, Miami could be a single digit favorite at Syracuse in the regular season finale.

Miami has three big goals for the remainder of the 2024 season, qualify for the ACC Championship game, win the conference title and earn a College Football Playoff berth. Miami would probably qualify for the ACC Championship game if they win five of their last six regular season games.

There are two clear paths for Miami to earn a CFP berth. Miami has to either win out in the regular season to virtually guarantee themselves of at-large berth in the CFP. The second and far more secure is to win the ACC Championship and guarantee themselves a berth as one of the four best conference champions.
