Four-star South Dade safety Tedarius Hughes, who has been committed to Florida State since last July, announced that he will be taking an official visit to Miami the weekend of May 30 through June 1. The 247 Sports composite rankings list Hughes as the No. 370 prospect, No. 28 safety and No. 56 player in Florida in the 2026 class.
Hughes has taken unofficial visits to Louisville, Miami and Syracuse, while attending Florida State's Elite Camp last summer and junior day earlier this month. The new Miami Hurricanes defensive coaching staff is playing catch-up with Hughes. Miami hired defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, plus secondary coaches Zac Etheridge and Will Harris for 2025.
In two seasons on defense for South Dade, Hughes has 49 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, six interceptions and six passes defended. Hughes also played offense and special teams for South Dade as a junior in 2024 with 12 receptions for 187 yards and four touchdowns and 175 yards in punt returns.
Hughes is one of five defense backs who are scheduled to take official visits to Miami the weekend of May 30 through June 1. Cornerbacks Chauncey Kennon and 2026 Miami legacy commit Camdin Portis and safeties Ayden Pouncey and Karon Maycock will join Hughes in Coral Gables.

4-star Florida State commit Tedarius Hughes will take a Miami official visit
Hughes provides exceptional length at 6-2 and 170 pounds, but has to work on continuing to develop mass. Cornerback Damari Brown, defensive back Dylan Day and safety Markeith Williams are the only players in the secondary on the 2025 Miami roster who are 6-2.
Miami had an exceptional offseason, adding talent to the secondary in the 2025 class and through the transfer portal. Michigan State transfer CB Charles Brantley is the only Miami addition to the 2025 roster entering his final season of eligibility. The future looks bright for the Miami secondary.
