Miami versus South Florida is in a lightning delay. The game was paused at 5:26 PM with 13:45 remaining in the second quarter per the Miami Football X account. Miami was leading 14-3 at the time of the delay. The game will not resume until 30 minutes after the most recent lightning delay.
Miami and South Florida will have a 10 minute warm-up before the game is resumed. The Weather Channel forecast states that thunderstorms are expected in Miami Gardens (where Hard Rock Stadium is located) until 7 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
The lightning delay was the first at a Miami game since the Hurricanes beat Ball State 62-0 on September 14, 2024. That game which was originally scheduled for a 3:30 PM EDT kickoff, did not start until 5:55 PM EDT. Ball State at Miami was also the third game of the season.
Miami began the game with touchdowns on its first two drives. The Hurricanes dominated the first quarter. Miami outgained South Florida 168 to 62 in the first quarter. Miami true freshman wide receiver Joshua Moore already has a breakout game with two receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Carson Beck has completed eight passes in 10 attempts for 111 yards and two TDs. South Florida got on the board with a seven-play, 48-yard drive that culminated with a 45-yard field goal by Nico Gramatica. South Florida has 62 yards on 12 plays at the time of the delay.

South Florida will have possession at their own 25 yardline after a Dylan Joyce punt. Miami went three and out on the last drive, which was the first one they failed to score today. Both teams entered the game ranked for the first time in their series.
