Miami Hurricanes running back Jordan Lyle was arrested Thursday on a warrant from the Sunrise Police Department and faces charges of fleeing and eluding at high speed and reckless driving.
Lyle was released Thursday after posting a $55,000 bond. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the charges as of Friday afternoon.
The University of Miami acknowledged Lyle's arrest. "We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle," a university spokesperson said. Miami said it would have no additional comment while the legal process continues. It is not immediately clear Friday whether the arrest would affect Lyle's status with the football program.
Lyle, a junior from Fort Lauderdale, has been competing for playing time in a Miami backfield led by returning starter Mark Fletcher Jr. The Hurricanes are currently in fall camp ahead of their Sept. 4 season opener at Stanford.
Fletcher rushed for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, while CharMar Brown added 474 yards and seven rushing touchdowns and Girard Pringle Jr. finished with 375 yards and four scores as a freshman. Freshman Javian Mallory also joined the room this offseason.
Lyle carried the ball five times for 11 yards in the Hurricanes' 2025 season-opening win over Notre Dame before a leg injury limited his availability. He appeared in six regular-season games and made two starts, finishing with 108 yards and one touchdown on 35 carries. He also caught three passes for 22 yards.
As a true freshman in 2024, Lyle rushed for 400 yards and four touchdowns on 54 attempts. His 7.4 yards per carry led Miami.
Lyle played at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale before signing with Miami as a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He rushed for 1,376 yards and 21 touchdowns during his senior season at St. Thomas Aquinas.
