Former Florida quarterback, DJ Lagway, once the No. 1 QB recruit in the 2024 class, committed to Baylor on Thursday, giving Dave Aranda and the Bears a jolt at the sport's most important position. Lagway also considered Florida State when he was in the transfer portal weighing his options.

DJ Lagway has found new home as Miami continues search for next QB
Lagway entered the portal Dec. 15, a move tied to both injuries and the program's transition after Billy Napier was fired in October. Florida hired Jon Sumrall, and the quarterback market around Lagway was sizable.
In 2025, Lagway threw for 2,264 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, with a 62% completion rate on 213-of-337 passing. As a freshman in 2024, he piled up 1,915 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Lagway is a Texas product, and he's also a Baylor-legacy, with his father, Derek Lagway, having played for the Bears. Baylor is betting that a change of scenery, plus a Big 12 offense built to feature the quarterback, gets him back on the trajectory people expected when he came out of high school.
CBS Sports ranked Lagway as a top-15 overall portal player and 247Sports had him as a top-five portal quarterback on their board. Miami, now in the middle of a CFP run, must look at the remaining QBs in the transfer portal for who they want to lead the way in 2026.
