Miami just got a major financial win because the ACC is letting the Hurricanes keep every dollar of the College Football Playoff payout tied to this run.

Front Office Sports reported Thursday that Miami has earned $14 million in CFP prize money so far and that the ACC will allocate all of it directly to the Hurricanes, rather than splitting it across the conference. Miami will keep the CFP's $3 million travel-expense allotment for each round it advances.

The ACC will give Miami all $14 million

That $14 million number is the cumulative performance payout that stacks each round in the 12-team playoff. The current structure is $4 million for making the CFP, another $4 million for reaching the quarterfinals, and $6 million for reaching the semifinals, with another $6 million available for reaching the national title game. Teams also receive $3 million per round to help cover expenses.

Miami triggered the extra payday on Wednesday night, stunning the defending national champion Buckeyes 24-14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas at the Cotton Bowl. Keionte Scott's 72-yard pick-six changed the game early, and Miami picked off Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin twice.

So why does Miami get to keep all of it?

This is the ACC's model by design. The ACC's revenue distribution approach is built around success incentives, with a larger share of postseason-generated money going to the teams that actually earn it instead of being divided equally among all members. The incentives are tied specifically to revenue-driving postseason events like the CFP and NCAA tournament.

This is the kind of money that can help any program from roster retention to portal hunting to the infrastructure.

Miami is now one win from a shot at the national championship game, which will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
