On a picturesque day in Dallas, Texas, the Miami Hurricanes squared off against a perilous ACC foe, in the SMU Mustangs. This matchup turned out to be another trap game the Hurricanes could not afford to lose. Most would have to agree that before Saturday's contest, the Canes would have more than likely needed to win all of their remaining ACC matchups, in order to become considered an upstart threat in a conference that as of now, does not have a clear favorite.
For the majority of the season, the Hurricanes were trending upward. With enormous victories against quality programs, the Miami Hurricanes emerged as the front-runners in both the ACC Conference, as well as nationally.
Once again, the Hurricane faithful could be questioning, "What could have been?" Thus far, the season is not over, and it is not a total waste for the talented Canes, but with the recent defeats, the Miami Hurricanes quest of finally capturing one of the coveted College Football Playoff spots, are on "life support."
Can a two-loss team enter into the playoffs? Anything is possible, but for the Miami Hurricanes, there is not any "margin of error" left. In an unpredictable college football season, there have only been one team that has been a team of consistency from the start and that is none other than the Ohio State Buckeyes, a program that seems to be " head and shoulders" above the rest of the programs in the nation, each year. What the Hurricanes must focus on is their current ACC Conference opponents, which has proven to become "no-gimme."
There are four remaining games for the Canes in the ACC, as well as the season. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes are capable of succumbing to another ACC rival. The best-case scenario for the Miami Hurricanes is for the program to finish the 2025 campaign strong by defeating all of the remaining opponents on their schedule. They are capable of winning those games, but in order for the Hurricanes to hold on to their "slim hopes" of becoming a College Football Playoff participant this season, there is not any more room for error.
