These Miami stats once again prove Corey Hetherman has been gold for the Canes

The Miami defense was the epitome of bend but dont break in their first round College Football Playoff win at Texas A&M on Saturday.

Texas A&M had six possessions on the Miami side of the field, but lost 10-3 in the first round of the College Football Playoffs on Saturday. The Aggies got as far as the Hurricanes' 31 three times and in the red zone twice, but only scored three points.

Texas A&M went 32 yards in 12 plays over 5:43 in its opening drive before stalling at the Miami 43-yard line. Miami held Texas A&M running back E.J. Smith to a one-yard gain on third and seven from their own 38. Texas A&M right tackle Trey Zuhn III was called for a false start on fourth down and the Aggies punted.

Texas A&M got back into Miami territory on its next drive, going five plays, 31 yards in 2:21. On second and nine from the Miami 29, the Hurricanes' defense made their first big play. Safety Keionte Scott sacked Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed and Armondo Blount recovered at the 31 to end the Aggies' drive.

After Miami forced a punt, Texas A&M drove 65 yards in five plays over 1:47 before being stopped on third down. Rueben Bain blocked a 22-yard Jared Zirkel field goal attempt to keep the game scoreless. Miami kept Texas A&M out of its territory for the next four drives, which straddled each half.

Texas A&M did not get back into Miami territory until its final drive of the third quarter. The Aggies had a 16-play, 67-yard drive over 7:30 that culminated with a 35-yard Randy Bond field goal. An Akheem Mesidor sack on first down on the final set of down on the drive put Texas A&M in 2nd and 13 and Miami forced the field goal.

Texas A&M recovered a Malachi Toney fumble at its own 47-yard line to begin its penultimate drive. After a Texas A&M first down, Bain sacked Reed on first and third down and Miami forced Texas A&M to punt. The drive ended at the Miami 41-yard line.

Miami answered with a six-play. 86-yard drive that culminated with the only touchdown to put Miami ahead 10-3 on an 11-yard Toney reception off of a jet sweep. After a touchback, Texas A&M began its final drive of the game at its own 25-yard line.

Texas A&M drove 10 plays, 70 yards in 1:20 to get to the Miami five-yard line. After forcing incompletions on first and second down, Miami true freshman Bryce Fitzgerald stepped in front of a Reed pass into to end zone to secure the Miami victory.

Miami finished the game with four sacks when Texas A&M was on its side of the field. Despite the six possession in Miami territory. the Aggies ran only 36 percent of their plays on the Hurricanes' side of the field. Miami ran 47 percent of its plays in Texas A&M territory.
