Chris "The Bear" Fallica has sketched out the nightmare scenario for the College Football Playoff selection committee, and it revolves around Miami. On X, the Fox Sports analyst laid out "the scenario the committee doesn't want": Miami beats Pitt, Alabama wins the SEC and jumps Notre Dame, BYU loses again to Texas Tech, and suddenly Notre Dame and Miami are sitting side by side with the committee left to make a decision.
The scenario the committee doesn’t want. Miami beats Pitt. Bama wins SEC, jumps ND as SEC champ. BYU loses again to Tech. ND and Miami now side by side and it’s an “I dare you” from the CFB world to leave Miami out. https://t.co/jhsGFrtKAK

Week 14 CFP Rankings
Right now, the committee has Notre Dame at No. 9, Alabama at No. 10, BYU at No. 11 and Miami at No. 12. BYU is 10-1 with an inside track for a Big 12 title shot. Miami is 9-2, the highest ranked ACC team but still needs help just to reach the ACC title game. The current order has the sport arguing because the Hurricanes beat Notre Dame head-to-head back in Week 1.
Fallica's scenario forces the committee to revisit the comparison between ND and Miami one more time.
Miami beats Pitt
If Miami beats No. 22 Pitt on the road, the Hurricanes would finish 10-2. Notre Dame has already beaten Pitt, so that result gives the committee another common opponent in addition to the existing head to head matchup. Miami's win over Notre Dame is already one of the best in the country, and a road win at Pitt would help Miami.
Alabama wins SEC
The Crimson Tide sit 10th today and still have a path to an SEC championship. If Alabama takes the SEC crown (they would need some major help to do so), then the Tide would fly up the rankings and be ahead of Notre Dame.
That is a direct hit to Notre Dame's cushion. In this scenario, it is thought that no SEC team would fall behind Notre Dame to replace the cushion.
Texas Tech beats BYU
The Cougars are 10-1, No. 11 in the rankings, with winning the Big 12 being their best path to the playoff. Fallica's scenario includes BYU losing again to Texas Tech, which is likely in a rematch in the conference championship game. That would drop BYU to 10-2 and more than likely move them behind Miami (at the very least).
CFP Committee is forced to do the unthinkable
In the version Fallica sketched out, Notre Dame and Miami end up with the same record and with no teams in between them in the rankings. The CFP Committee would then be forced to look at both, and choose between Miami or Notre Dame for who gets into the CFP.
If this scenario hits, they would have to either double down on that philosophy and leave out the team that beat Notre Dame, or flip and elevate Miami at the expense of the Irish after weeks of defending the opposite stance.
