Jake Odgen and Daniel Cuvet hit three-run home runs to help Miami rally from a 4-1 deficit and win 9-6 at Louisville to even their Super Regional with one victory each. Louisville and Miami will play a decisive game three on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha beginning on Friday.
Miami took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a single by Michael Torres to drive in Tanner Smith. Louisville answered with a single by Zion Rose to drive in Lucas Moore to tie the game at one in the top of the third inning, which was followed by a two-run HR by Eddie King Jr. to put Louisville in front 3-1.
Jake Monroe hit his third HR of the Super Regional to extend the Louisville lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning. A Jake Kulikowski single scored Derek Williams to cut the Miami deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth. After Michael Torres singled, Ogden homered to left-center field to give Miami a 5-4 lead.
Miami maintained the lead until King hit his second HR of the game in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at five. The Hurricanes answered immediately. Dorian Gonzalez hit a leadoff double and Renzo Gonzalez singled him home two batters later to put Miami in front 6-5.
Daniel Cuvet hit what turned out to be the game-winning HR in the bottom of the eighth to extend the Miami lead to 9-5. Louisville got its first two batters on in the top of the ninth inning. Alex Alicea doubled and Moore singled him home to cut the Miami lead to 9-6.
After a Matt Klein walk, Miami closer Brian Walters induced flyouts surrounding a King groundout to preserve the win and advance Miami one game away from Omaha and the College World Series. Carson Fischer improved to 5-1 with the win in relief and Walters earned his 11th save.
Miami has not named a starting pitcher for Sunday. J. D. Arteaga will likely choose between Tate DeRias or Reese Lumpkin. DeRias has been the game three weekend starter for the second half of the season. Lumpkin pitched well in the Hattiesburg Regional clincher. First pitch is at noon Eastern Standard Time on Sunday on ESPN.
