Miami added a proven wide receiver in the transfer portal on Wednesday morning with a commitment from C.J. Daniels from LSU and previously Liberty. Daniels had 42 receptions for 480 yards for LSU in 2024. Before LSU, Daniels had 106 receptions for 1,959 yards and 21 touchdowns in four seasons with Liberty.
Daniels is ranked as the 52nd overall transfer and 15th WR in the portal by 247Sports. Adding Daniels is significant with Miami potentially losing its top four WRs. Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo completed their eligibility, Isaiah Horton entered the transfer portal and Sam Brown has the option of entering the NFL Draft.
Daniels was among the best big-play receivers in 2023 with Liberty, finishing second nationally with nine receptions of 30 or more yards. At 6'2 and 205 pounds, Daniels provides Miami with a needed big target receiver after the departure of the 6'4 Horton. Conference USA named Daniels second-team All-Confernce in 2022 with Liberty.
Daniels was the 2,450th ranked prospect, 321st WR and 221st player in Georgia in the 2020 class out of Lilburn, Parkview. As a true freshman in 2020, Daniels had 11 receptions for 220 yards and three TDs. Daniels had a breakout season in 2021 with 37 receptions for 629 yards and led Liberty with seven TD catches.
Daniels played in only four games in 2022 before taking a medical redshirt. In 2023 when Liberty went 13-1 and played Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl, Daniels led the Flames with 55 receptions, 1,067 receiving yards and 10 TDs. Daniels had eight receptions for 79 of the 126 yards passing for Liberty in the 45-6 loss to the Ducks.
Daniels was the fourth leading receiver for LSU in 2024. Transferring to Miami will provide Daniels with an opportunity to become the top WR again. Miami has uncertainty in the WR room at QB entering the 2024 offseason. Daniels provides Miami with some stability at WR on the 2025 roster.
