The 12-team College Football Playoff picture will come into sharper focus Tuesday night when the selection committee unveils its third Top 25 of the 2025 season around 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. After a chaotic Week 12 that saw Alabama fall at home and Georgia and Oklahoma pick up statement wins, this figures to be the most volatile reveal yet. Before we get into where Miami should be ranked, let's take a look at the teams that project to be above the Hurricanes.
Projecting the CFP Rankings
The top of the rankings will remain unchanged — thanks to Texas A&M's comeback victory against South Carolina. Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M all survived and remain locked into the top three spots.
Georgia is the first big mover. The Bulldogs were No. 5 in last week's CFP rankings, then hammered Texas 35-10 in a top-10 showdown while Alabama lost at home to Oklahoma. Expect the committee to bump Kirby Smart's team into the No. 4 spot.
Behind them, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Oregon didn't do anything that would mess up the order from last week. The Rebels had a competitive game in the Swamp, but that might not be enough to move the Ducks above them. Tech is No. 5, Ole Miss is No. 6 and Oregon is No. 7.
The committee's handling of Oklahoma and Alabama will define the middle of the top 10. The Sooners now own one of the best wins in the sport after beating the Tide 23-21 in Tuscaloosa, adding to an earlier road win at Tennessee.
Based on how heavily the committee leaned on head-to-head results in its first two reveals, a reasonable expectation is that Oklahoma moves inside the top 10 and lands ahead of Alabama. That should be in front of a Notre Dame team which is probably already too high to begin with. Oklahoma at No. 8, Alabama at No. 9 (since they still have the win over Georgia) and Notre Dame at No. 10.
Where will Miami end up in the CFP rankings?
Now we get to Miami's spot. After Week 12, the committee doesn't have a ton of reason to move around BYU, Vanderbilt and Utah. But, at least Texas drops in the rankings. That would move Miami up a modest one spot and put them at No. 13. They aren't in any danger of getting jumped either as GT struggled to beat Boston College and it would be surprising for the committee to have USC move up from No. 16.
Although it shouldn't come as a surprise if USC does move above GT after its win over Iowa. Texas should most likely fall to the high-teens or low-20s.
