Miami Hurricanes vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers: Notable Tweets
With about 15 hours till game day, I did my very best to scour the web and social media to see what some people, especially ex-Huskers have been saying about the Miami vs Nebraska game.

This game used to carry a lot of meaning for all of college football. Not only was it the ultimate culture clash, but it determined 4 National Titles.
Now, with both programs considered mediocre, trying to get back to their dominating days of old, some people haven’t forgotten the “glory days” as this rivalry game still carries a bunch of meaning.
Kenny Bell is a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bell played for the Cornhuskers from 2010 to 2014. He’s currently the Nebraska Career Receptions Record Holder (181) and the Nebraska Career Receiving Yards Record Holder (2,689). Last year, Bell had 4 receptions, 70 yards and a touchdown against the ‘Canes.
Ameer Abdullah thought it would be entertaining to use the hashtag #TBT (ThrowBack Thursday) to show a photograph of himself in their dominant win last year. But if any one has the right to, it’s Abdullah as he rushed for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns against Miami. He also had a 3 yard touchdown reception in that game. Currently, Abdullah plays for the Detroit Lions.
Josh Mitchell is a cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts. Beforehand, Mitchell was a standout DB for the Cornhuskers between 2010-2014. In fact, Mitchell returned a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown to give the ‘Huskers the 31-21 lead in last year’s meeting against “The U”.
This is my favorite tweet! Marcus Lemonis must be a big Miami Hurricanes fan as he’s apparently from Miami. Lemonis is the star of CNBC’s hit reality show, “The Profit”. A savvy and highly successful entrepreneur, Lemonis invests in struggling businesses, adding his own expertise in hopes to turn the companies around.
You have to love Bennie Blades on Twitter. He’s still very active on social media and most importantly, the college football community. Blades was an all-American defensive back and Jim Thorpe Award Winner at Miami. He was a first round pick for the Detroit Lions in 1988, playing 10 seasons in the NFL.
There’s nothing really that would anger Miami fans in Nathan Gerry’s tweet. However, he does seem overly excited to be going up against the ‘Canes and he did hashtag #BeatTheU. Gerry is Nebraska’s current Team Captain and starting safety. As a matter of fact, he’s considered one of the top safeties in the Big Ten and already has 2 interceptions this early in the season.
As the day approaches game time, I would take a look around twitter-sphere as I’m sure the alumni of both schools will be chattering up a storm regarding the matchup. I’ll be especially curious to see which Miami and Nebraska “Greats” do the talking. I just hope those tweeting for the ‘Canes will end up getting the last laugh.
Check out what the Nebraska players and coaches are saying about the Miami matchup:
