Being a Miami Hurricanes fan is like riding a roller coaster without being fastened properly. There’s tremendous ups and many downs and at times you wonder if it’s even safe.

Miami has had another whirlwind of a season in 2015. In fact, they’ve made multiple headlines and not always for the right reasons, but hey, as a ‘Canes fan I’m quite used to it.

With that said, the ‘Canes faced a lot of adversity: biggest loss in school history, firing of their head coach and a miracle return (that had many in question)..

Miami is a walking, talking, football-playing, soap opera and it has always been, since the early ’80s. Have you wondered why ESPN Films: 30 for 30, “The U” & “The U Part 2” documentaries were so successful?

Many people want to be a ‘Cane, yet many are scared of them. Of what they represent. And, when people are scared of something they like to condemn it. Miami has been condemned as a football program over the years.  Maybe it’s because of the Nevin Shapiro scandal or the FIU/Miami fight or the military fatigues or the on-campus murders or the financial-aid policy scam or their on-field antics or just jealousy due to so much success and many National Championships over a small window of time.

However, people will say Miami hasn’t been relevant in the past 10 years or so. And I’ll say, you’re wrong. Miami is always relevant. If they weren’t relevant then why do they continuously make national headlines? When something’ news worthy in regard to the Miami program, haters come out in droves. Would the media and sports fans alike chastise programs such as: Temple, Bowling Green, Arizona, Indiana, East Carolina, Kansas State, etc… the way they bash the ‘Canes on every and any issue?

I get it we live in the past, right? Well, at least we have a past worth noting and thus, something to build on.

Bottom line, let the haters hate. I’ll never question my loyalty to Miami football, period. It’s a program with a storied tradition of championships, incredible talent, and countless bowl wins. Sure, it’s peppered with a checkered past of sanctions and a thuggish mentality (it’s football, not polo), but the program continues to have so much potential.

And, the potential is through the roof now that we’ve entered the “Mark Richt Era.”

Look, I’ll be a ‘Canes supporter through thick and thin, supporting in any way possible. I’m a Miami Hurricanes fan and I’ll always bleed orange and green.
