Miami Hurricanes Basketball Five Biggest Wins Over Duke
4. Miami 78 Duke 74, 2012
A young Miami team was still trying to assert itself in the ACC. They made a huge statement by getting their first ever win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
In Jim Larranaga’s first season, Miami Junior Center Reggie Johnson paved the way for a 78-74 overtime victory at Duke. The win was Miami’s fourth in a row during a five-game winning streak. It was also a surprising upset over the then number seven Blue Devils.
Miami traveled to Durham coming off of a double-overtime win over Maryland in their previous game. Duke entered the game 19-3 and on a three-game winning streak.
The Blue Devils had no answer for the 6’10 285 pound Johnson inside. The Miami center finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds on 11-17 from the floor.
Johnson told the Associated Press after the game:
"“I feel I had the hot hand the whole game,” Johnson said, adding that first-year coach Jim Larranaga “was trying to ride me a whole lot. My teammates found me in good positions — catch and score.”"
The Hurricanes had to survive after they blew a 14 point halftime lead. Johnson’s frontcourt mate Kenny Kadji also had his way with the Plumlees and Duke frontline with 15 points and eight rebounds.
