Kevin Olsen the brother of Carolina Panthers All-Pro tight end and another former Miami Hurricane has been indicted on rape charges in North Carolina.

The Charlotte Observer was told by a representative of the District Attorney’s office said that Olsen has been charged with “three counts of second-degree rape, one count of second-degree sexual offense, and two counts of assault on a female.” The charges are related to an alleged assault on a woman that Olsen was dating and allegedly occurred in February.

The charges are related to an alleged assault on a woman that Olsen was dating and reportedly occurred in February. The Observer added that: “Each of Olsen’s rape charges carries a possible 10-year sentence. Timeline per the Charlotte Observer was:

"“According to (Assistant District Attorney Kristin) Northrup, Olsen and his 23-year-old accuser went out drinking on a Saturday night but became separated. During their time apart, Northrup said, Olsen sent the woman a text message threatening to kill her.Eventually, the pair reunited and used Uber to get back to Olsen’s apartment early Sunday morning. There, Northrup said, Olsen remained upset about the evening “and some events in his life.” He grabbed a phone charger and wrapped it around his neck, the prosecutor said. The victim, according to Northrup, calmed Olsen down. But the argument flared again. Olsen first struck her with a pillow, then punched her in the face before sexually assaulting her three times, Northrup said. When Olsen fell asleep, the woman slipped out of the apartment and called a friend, Northrup said. Police reached her at Carolinas HealthCare System University, where the woman was found to have vaginal injuries and bruising around one of her eyes.”"

Olsen spent a redshirt season in 2013 with the Hurricanes backing up Stephen Morris. The following season he lost a chance to start when then true freshman Brad Kaaya earned the job. Olsen played in six games for Charlotte this past season throwing for 842 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Olsen also struggled on the field this past season. Observer sports writer Bill Kiser told Walter Villa of the Miami Herald:

"“In practice, things would look good,” Kiser said of Olsen. “But in games, the offense wouldn’t click or took awhile to click. He didn’t have pocket presence. He couldn’t tell when trouble was about to descend upon him, and he lacked timing with his receivers.”"

Olsen has had a troubled past off the field following losing out on the starting quarterback position to Kaaya in 2014. He left Miami shortly after that following a DUI arrest. Olsen never played for the Hurricanes. He had also been suspended by Miami for breaking team rules earlier.

"Following his departure, former Miami Head Coach Al Golden said: “needs this time to look at himself and obviously move forward.”"

Olsen is currently suspended by the Charlotte football team. In addition to being suspended by the 49ers, he was kicked off the team at Towson State as well as leaving Miami following the DUI. His departure at Towson according to the Observer was due to “Off-field disciplinary problems that included drugs and driving under the influence”
