Trailing 19-16 late in the game FSU quarterback Charlie Ward drove the Seminoles 59 yards to the Miami 22 yard line. FSU kicker Dan Mowry missed a 39-yard field goal on the game’s last play. Wide right II was born.

The last wide right heartbreak for Florida State fans came in the game that many dubbed Miami’s return to the nation’s elite. Ken Dorsey hit tight end Jeremy Shockey with a touchdown with less than a minute to go to give Miami the lead.

Florida State had rallied from a 17-0 deficit to take a 24-20 lead with 1:37 left in the fourth quarter. Seminole quarterback Chris Weinke threw for 496 yards. The teams combined for 1,013 yards of total offense.

Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey drove Miami 68 yards in 51 seconds for the go-ahead touchdown. Florida State answered by driving to the Miami 32 for a potential game-tying field goal. Matt Munyon’s 49-yard attempt became wide right three.

Munyon missed two of his three attempts in the game and was three of eight at that point of the season.
