Miami Hurricanes Ninth All-Time in Pro Football Hall of Fame Players

Sapp recorded 10.5 sacks in his final season in college. The Hurricanes finished 10-2 that season. They almost upset Nebraska in the Orange Bowl 11 seasons after their epic program changing shocker.

His University of Miami Athletic Hall of Fame bio credited Sapp with 176 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and many forced fumbles and pass deflections during his collegiate career. Sapp left Miami after his Junior season for the NFL.

Sapp fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 12th pick in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft. Sapp’s positive drug test scared the teams picking one through 11 away from him.

Sapp spent the first nine seasons of his career in Tampa. The once also rans of the NFL won the franchise’s only Super Bowl title after the 2002 season.

Sapp signed with the Oakland Raiders after the for the 2004 season. He finished his career by playing four seasons with the Raiders.

Sapp finished his NFL Career with nine passes defended, 19 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, 96.5 sacks and 435 tackles. Sapp is the all-time leader in sacks among players that solely played defensive tackle throughout their NFL career.

Following his career, Sapp spent five seasons with the NFL Network. He was let go after getting into some legal trouble. He and Irvin would often flash the U on the Network together
