After two straight emotional blowout victories, the Miami Hurricanes will attempt to avoid a letdown when they host Virginia on Saturday.

The ten days have been a whirlwind for the Miami Hurricanes. In the span of ten days, Miami defeated Virginia Tech 28-10, clinched their first ACC Coastal Division title, destroyed Notre Dame 41-8 and moved from tenth in the College Football Playoff rankings to third.

The Cavaliers 38-21 loss at Louisville last week clinched the ACC Coastal Division title and Miami’s first trip to the ACC Championship game. Later on that night the Hurricanes were rude hosts to Notre Dame in a complete demolition.

The Hurricanes now have two games to go to finish the regular season undefeated. Then it’s on to Charlotte to play Clemson in the ACC Championship game. Miami will play at Pittsburgh next Friday in the regular season finale.

Virginia in on pace for its first winning season and first bowl game since 2011. That was the only bowl game they have played in in the past nine years. Virginia Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall is part of a great class of 2016 of ACC Coaches that includes Mark Richt and Virginia Tech Head Coach Justin Fuente.

Virginia quarterback Kurt Benkert is having an outstanding season. He has thrown for 2,492 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

The Cavaliers running game has been anemic. They are last in the ACC averaging 112.6 yards per game. That’s nearly 20 yards per game behind Florida State who is 13th in the conference in rushing yards per game. Running back Jordan Ellis does have 786 yards, six touchdowns and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

Miami Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz is likely to dare the Cavaliers to run the football. Miami comes into the Virginia game allowing less than 200 yards per game passing and is second in the ACC in sacks.

The Hurricanes used a dominant ground game against Notre Dame last week and should be able to do the same against Virginia. The Cavaliers are 11th in the ACC allowing 178.9 yards per game on the ground.

This kind of game is a good test for both Miami’s players and the crowd. After two straight emotional, primetime victories on ABC. The Hurricanes now will be on ABC again but for a Noon ET kickoff. It’s early for the fans and the players, but no one can be blamed if there is a letdown.

All-Time Series: Miami leads 8-6
Last MeetingMiami won 34-14 at Virginia in 2016

The series has had its ebbs and flows. The Hurricanes and Cavaliers first met at the same venue they will play at on Saturday. The 1996 Carquest Bowl hosted the battle between the Cavaliers and the Hurricanes who were then in the Big East. Miami won that game 31-21. Miami played its home game back then in the Orange Bowl.

The teams wouldn’t meet again until Miami joined the ACC. Eight seasons later the Hurricanes won by the identical 31-21 score. Miami would win five of the first seven meetings with the Cavaliers. Virginia then won four of the next five games to even the series at six games apiece.

Included in that run was Virginia’s 48-0 demolition of the Cavaliers in the Hurricanes last ever game at the Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes have now won the last two meetings.
