December 27, Walk-ons Independence Bowl, Shreveport, Louisiana, Florida State vs Southern Mississippi 12:30 ET ESPN

The day after Duke plays its game in Detroit, Florida State will play in the Walk-ons Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. Most Miami fans know and have reveled in the struggles Florida State has had this season.

The Seminoles downfall began with quarterback Deondre Francois’ season-ending injury in Florida State’s season-opening loss to Alabama. FSU would lose three of its first four and six of its first nine to begin the season. They had to rally by winning their last three games to get bowl eligible.

The Miami Hurricanes ended their seven-game losing streak to Florida State this season. That was the Seminoles third loss in their first four games.

James Blackman took over for Francois at Quarterback. On the season, Blackman threw for 1,997 yards 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He completed only 57.2 percent of his passes. Blackman finished eighth in the ACC with a quarterback rating of 129.2.

After Francois got hurt late in the loss to the Crimson Tide, Blackman started game two against North Carolina State. The Seminoles lost 27-21 at Doak Campbell Stadium to the Wolfpack. Blackman played well in the loss. He was 22-38 for 278 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
