"Like I told them, in the fall, we’ll play one unit. We’re going to play the unit that knows what to do and is tough and will play physical and can function well on a consistent basis… If that’s 14 guys, then I’ll go no huddle and I’ll go as slow as I’ve got to go. If it’s 25 guys that are ready to rock and roll and play ball, then we may go with tempo and sub and get after it. But we as a staff are only going to play guys we can trust, that they know what to do and they’re physical and they’ll fight for this university.”"

Right now only a handful of players seem to fit what Richt is referring to. Rosier, running back Travis Homer, wide receiver Ahmmon Richards and offensive lineman Tyler Gauthier, Navaughn Donaldson and Tyree St. Louis are the players that have shown all three of the aspects that Richt is asking for.

Donaldson and St. Louis face the added task of starting in new positions this fall. St. Louis moved from right tackle to left tackle. Donaldson will replace St. Louis after playing alongside him at right guard in 2017.

The Hurricanes showed a lot of toughness last season coming back several times late in games to earn victories. They have the depth and talent to be able to play an uptempo style that Richt seems to want to go with this fall. Now they just need to have the players all buy into what Richt is asking them to do.
