"Week 4 – Sept. 22 vs. FIU (Miami Gardens, Fla.) “Miami and FIU will renew their rivalry for the first time since their infamous fight back in 2007. The 2006 matchup — a 35-0 Hurricanes win — featured a benches-clearing brawl that resulted in 31 suspensions between the two teams. FIU head coach Butch Davis, who coached Miami from 1995-2000, would certainly love to upset his former team. This will be Davis’ first game against the Hurricanes since being hired at FIU. He left Miami after the 2000 season.”"

Davis did coach four games against the Hurricanes when he coached North Carolina from 2007-10. Miami won the first three meetings. Davis got the Canes back with a 33-10 win in 2010.

FIU returns 13 starters in 2013. They will have a new quarterback after losing last year’s starter Alex McGough.

Miami leads the all-time series two games to none. They won in back to back seasons in 2006 and ’07. The Golden Panthers didn’t start playing in the FBS until 2004. Davis had the best season for a first-year coach in program history and the first winning record by a first-year Head Coach.

Miami only has two non-conference games that are scheduled for 2019. They will open the season against another SEC team when they play Florida in Orlando. They also host Central Michigan on September 21.

Miami will likely follow the same scheduling process they have in past seasons.  One game will be against an FCS team and another against one of the lower FBS schools. Could they play Florida Atlantic and Lane Kiffin? It’s not likely too many Power Five schools will want any part of Kiffin’s teams.

Some of the marquee games of the next few seasons include home and homes with Michigan State and Texas A&M and against Alabama in Atlanta in 2021. Mark Richt has done a great job upgrading the schedule since he took over.
