What once seemed like a disparity in talent has seemed to flip the last two years. That is both in the talent coming to and leaving Coral Gables and Tallahassee. The Miami football program has had 15 players selected in the NFL Draft during Richt’s first two seasons. Florida State has had ten players taken in the last two NFL Drafts.

For the first time in many years, the Miami football program finished ahead of Florida State in recruiting. The Hurricanes 2018 Class was ranked eighth in the 247Sports Composite. Florida State was 11th.

The Seminoles were fortunate to wind up with the Class they did. Taggart and his staff had to scramble to sign players after being hired.

The Sporting News published a consensus Top 25 in May. They used their own rankings and those of four other big media outlets. Miami is eighth, Florida State 22nd. The Seminoles 13 returning starters have a lot to prove after last season. Florida State number 22 ranking makes sense on talent, not on production.

Taggart has been praised for what others have called his offensive prowess. He only has one year of experience in a Power Five Conference. It’s a huge step up from Western Kentucky and South Florida to Florida State.
