Was Miami Hurricanes 2017’s FSU streak breaker similar to 2000’s?

Miami had a lot of close wins last year. That victory over Florida State was the first one. It set the tone for having the confidence to claim victory late in games.

The Hurricanes had another thrilling victory a week later when Langham had another clutch catch late in the fourth quarter. That set up Michael Badgley game-winning field goal with four seconds remaining.

  • In 2000 Florida State outgained Miami 565 yards to 448. The Seminoles held a 406 to 337 edge in yards last season. Miami had 280 of their yards in the second half.

The Florida State writer seems to think he’s Joe Namath. He ended his article guaranteeing a victory at Hard Rock Stadium this season. The ESPN Football Power Index differs with that prediction drastically. Florida State is only given a 31.7 percent chance to win against Miami this season.

The same website had another writer say that they are happy that the game is in Miami because Florida State hasn’t lost there since 2004. The writer who doubts the Hurricanes said that the past doesn’t matter. The site contradicts itself.

The respect that the majority of both fan bases have for one another is something that has made the rivalry great over the years. Miami and Florida State fans are united by their animosity towards the Florida Gators.

Clearly, not everyone shares that view. Some clearly have a vendetta against other schools, programs and coaches. Don’t cross Florida State.

It doesn’t take a blowout for a team to begin a winning streak. The win over Florida State in 2000 began a six-game winning streak by the Hurricanes over Florida State. To suggest otherwise is ignorant.
