Richt appeared on the Joe Rose show on Monday morning before meeting the press later in the day for the Hurricanes media day. He said that the scrimmage was the longest he’s had as a Head Coach.

For the first time during his tenure leading Miami, Richt told Rose and co-host Zach Krantz he is confident going three deep on the Miami football roster. That was why the scrimmage lasted longer. They were able to provide snaps to the top three teams for the Hurricanes.

No update was given by late Monday afternoon on the injury status of backup left tackle George Brown. The one time LSU transfer sustained a knee injury during the scrimmage. Richt mentioned that he was waiting to hear from Head Trainer Vinny Scavo to provide an update. Brown did not practice on Monday.

Brown’s injury forced some shuffling of the offensive line on Monday. Freshman Delone Scaife is currently Miami’s sixth offensive lineman according to Richt.

It’s amazing he’s been able to earn the spot as the primary backup so quickly. It’s impressive that the Hurricanes have had a True Freshman lineman perform so well for the second year in a row.

Navaughn Donaldson earned the starting right guard position out of training camp in 2017. Donaldson became a True Freshman All-American.

Scaife was moved to second-team left tackle on Monday. That prompted Graduate Transfer Venzell Boulware’s move to left guard and True Freshman Cleveland Reed to right guard. Richt discussed this Spring that the offensive line was the unit in the biggest need of upgrading.

Offensive Line Coach Stacy Searles and Richt have done an outstanding job bringing in talented linemen in their three recruiting classes that are ready to play. The Miami football team will lose three starting offensive linemen after this season. The line seems to be in a good place for the future.
