Trayone Gray who is listed as the first team fullback spent time on Monday practicing with the running backs. Gray was switched to fullback this Spring. He is battling with Freshman Realus George to be the starting fullback. Richt discussed the strong training camp that Gray has had thus far.

"“I’ll tell you the guy that’s probably helped himself more than anybody this camp is Trayone Gray, as a fullback and he got some tailback reps, too…He’s not done playing tailback here for us.” …"

It’s encouraging to hear that Gray is not done playing tailback. If he can be a hybrid tailback-fullback Gray could help the short yardage running game that Miami struggled with significantly in 2017.

Every time the lightning alarms go off this summer during practice the thoughts are when will the Soffer be ready. James addressed that on Monday.

"“We’re in a great position. We have the temporary certificate of occupancy, we’re just finishing up the turf and we’ll be in there, my guess, they’ll finish [Tuesday], but I’m confident we’ll be in there, if needed, this week… Everyone has been great in really supporting this effort, making it happen in a relatively short timeline and we couldn’t be more excited as a program to have it there for us. It will be at some point this week and we’re excited about that.”"

Richt did go into quite a bit more detail on a few subjects. He discussed the offensive line more fully and what it takes to build it, he reiterated what James said about the Soffer, what the goals are for 2018 and how the special teams were developing.

All ten Assistant Coaches on the Miami Football Staff met with over 50 media members during media day on Monday. Greentree will get back to normal on Tuesday. The Miami depth chart should continue to evolve as the next two and a half weeks of practice grow closer to the September 2 opener.

Richt also told Rose that the third scrimmage will be more of a rehearsal for the game against LSU. He expects the positions groups to be solidified by then and for the scout team to be mimicking what he expects the Tigers to be running against Miami.
