Florida State lost a game at home

As embarrassing as the Miami Hurricanes loss to LSU was it didn’t have any meaning towards Miami’s goal of winning the ACC Coastal and getting back to the ACC Championship game. Florida State’s loss not only was in the ACC it was only one of four conference home games that the Seminoles will have this season.

Win or lose it’s tough to start the season off with a conference game. Protecting your home turf is critical in football, even more so in conference games. The loss was the fourth in the Seminoles last five ACC home games.

The Miami Hurricanes were 4-0 in the ACC at home in 2017. They went 7-1 at home overall last season including the loss to Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes have a six-game regular season and ACC home winning streak.

Something will give when Miami hosts Florida State next month. The Hurricanes have six straight losses to the Seminoles in South Florida. They lost their last meeting with to Florida State at the Orange Bowl and have lost all five between the teams since Hard Rock Stadium became the Hurricanes home field.

Miami did defeat Florida State in the 2004 Orange Bowl Game that was held at what is now Hard Rock Stadium. A sizeable percentage of both rosters were not significant contributors when Florida State needed to block an extra point late in the fourth quarter in 2016 to secure a victory.
