Several local media outlets in Miami and Philadelphia and the expected national media outlets are reporting that Diaz to Temple is a done deal with all but the official and legal signing to take place. Diaz to Temple continues the trend of the Owls hiring an up and coming coach his first Head Coaching job.

Thamel was also the first time report that Diaz would be offered the Head Coaching position. Diaz is finally getting his first chance as to lead his own program after 13 years as a Coordinator. He has led defenses at Mississippi State twice, Texas and Louisiana Tech in addition to Miami and Middle Tennessee State.

Diaz is stepping into a good situation at Temple. The Owls are 73-53 over the last ten seasons and headed to their sixth bowl game in that span. Temple will play Miami’s ACC Coastal Division Rival Duke in the Independence Bowl later this month. The Hurricanes lost to Duke 20-12 at home in November.

Temple has turned into the modern day cradle of coaches. In the past, ironically Miami (Ohio) sent many Bo Schembechler and North Carolina’s Dick Crum on to bigger programs. The last four Temple Head Coaches have moved onto to Power Five programs. That streak began with former Miami Head Coach Al Golden.
