ZION TURNER, QB, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

247 Sports composite: three-stars 0.8739. 438 overall, number 14 dual, 55 Florida

Turner was named the second-team All-Broward quarterback by the Sun-Sentinel in 2020 after completing 55.3 percent of his passes for 1,066 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions and running for 206 yards as a junior in 2021 and seven touchdowns according to MaxPreps.Com. Miami is the current leader for Turner.

Turner has won state titles for Aquinas the last two seasons. Miami does not often sign a QB from South Florida. Turner will give them that chance. Of the five National Championship QBs for Miami, only Craig Erickson was from South Florida.

David Wilson of the Miami Herald summarized “Ten South Florida recruits the Miami Hurricanes should prioritize in the Class of 2022.” According to Wilson, Duffy is the likely top QB target for Miami in 2022, but that Turner should be on the Hurricanes shortlist. Miami could attempt to sign two QBs in 2022.

"“Quarterback recruiting is usually a national effort the Hurricanes and four-star Bradenton IMG Academy quarterback AJ Duffy is probably the top target — he works with the same private instructor as new quarterback Jake Garcia — but Zion Turner should be on Miami’s short list, too. The three-star quarterback led Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas to a second straight Class 7A championship last year and he thrives in the read option, making him a good fit for offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee’s system.”"

Matocha, Van Dyke and Garcia are the only QBs on the Miami roster currently who will have eligibility in 2020.

Miami will be adept with four QBs for 2022 but could choose to sign two QBs to be safe to go five deep at the position. This spring will go a long way towards how those three Miami careers will project.

As long as Lashlee is the offensive coordinator for the Miami football program, the Hurricanes should be able to sign a top-ranked QB. The Hurricanes seemed to go all-in on Garcia in 2021. The recruitment of a QB in the 2022 class by Miami is keeping their options open with multiple prospects they are targeting.
