Former Houston and Texas head coach Tom Herman
Tom Herman has a 49-22 record in six seasons as a head coach at Houston and Texas. The Cougars were 22-4 in 2015 and 2016 under Herman before he left to become the head coach of the Longhorns. In five seasons in Austin, Herman was 32-18. Texas finished in 22-13 in Big XII play in four seasons under Herman.
After going 7-6 in the first season under Herman in 2017, Texas finished 10-4 in 2018. That included a 28-21 upset over previously 11-1 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Texas was not able to improve and went 15-8 overall and 10-7 in the Big XII in the final two seasons under Herman.

Herman was fired following the 2020 season and is currently an offensive analyst with the Chicago Bears. USC is a potential destination for Herman after the 2021 season. The Trojans fired head coach Clay Helton last month. Steve Sarkisian who succeeded Herman at Texas has previously been the head coach at USC.
Prior to Houston, Herman was a longtime college offensive assistant coach. Herman was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Iowa State from 2009-2011 and held the same position at Ohio State from 2012 through 2014. Among the players Herman coached at Houston are Miami QB D’Eriq King.
